Employee Health and Safety
Our Commitment to Health and Safety
At Gopher Resource, protecting people and communities is the core value of our company culture. As an industry leader in lead battery recycling, we prioritize fostering a safe workplace where every employee feels valued and protected. Through rigorous training, cutting-edge technology, and comprehensive safety programs, we strive to minimize risks and promote employee well-being every day.
Setting a New Standard for Safety
We hold ourselves to the highest health and safety standards, often exceeding regulatory requirements. By making significant annual investments in our Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs — over $15 million per year — we ensure that our facilities and protocols lead the industry in innovation and effectiveness. Approximately 11% of onsite employees at each facility focus on EHS-related roles to ensure a consistent and thorough approach.
Key Highlights of Our Commitment
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – We invest over $3.3 million annually in state-of-the-art PPE to safeguard our employees in every work area.
- On-Site Hygiene Facilities – Our facilities include advanced hygiene stations such as separate clean and dirty locker rooms, showers, laundry services, on-site clinics, body vacuums, handwash stations, and lead-check stations, all designed to prevent lead dust from leaving the site.
- Ongoing Training – Employees receive an average of more than 22 hours of safety-focused training annually to ensure they are well-equipped to prioritize safety in all tasks.
- Engineering Solutions – We utilize advanced ventilation and air filtration systems to draw dust and fumes away from workers, reducing exposure and supporting environmental protection.
- Monitoring and Support – We conduct continuous health monitoring and provide onsite medical support to safeguard employee well-being.
